Supporting the next generation of Scottish sailing talent.
Pathway Clubs are part of a new RYA initiative designed to make junior and youth racing affordable, accessible, and engaging. The scheme identifies and supports clubs that provide high-quality coaching and racing opportunities for young sailors.
In Scotland, these are known as Scottish Sailing Pathway Clubs, forming a recognised network of venues where junior racers can develop fundamental skills, enjoy fun racing, and feel part of a wider sailing community.
What Does It Take to Be a Pathway Club?
To become a Scottish Sailing Pathway Club, clubs must meet key standards including provision of a junior and youth training and racing calendar, a high standard of safeguarding and safety compliance, an identified lead club coach / representative, and commitment to the RYA Racing Charter. RYA Scotland supports clubs through this process and offers benefits such as coach development, access to equipment / resource, and wider event support. Interested in becoming an RYA Scotland Pathway Club?
RYA affiliated clubs are required to review the host club criteria and submit a formal application.
Clubs can apply to become a Pathway Club through the same RYA Portal that is used to complete annual RYA affiliation renewals.
Pathway Club status is an annual appointment, and clubs will be required to complete a short return each year, at the same time as they renew their RYA affiliation.
