Running an event? We might be able to help. Find out more about RYA Scotland's overall approach to events.
Events are the lifeblood of our sport, and we recognise how much work goes into running them, particularly by volunteers. Whether it’s club activity, class nationals, or something new altogether – we also know how much resource is required to run a safe and fun event.
How does RYA Scotland support events in Scotland?
We run a number of key RYA Scotland events during the year, primarily in support of pathway development opportunities for young sailors.
We offer, often through our Aspire partners, a calendar of training and development opportunities that support the skill development of event volunteers.
We are also sometimes able to support activity delivered by affiliated clubs and organisations with different resources.

In a bid to support a variety of different activity across Scotland, we refer to our event strategy which promotes the value of events, and how their impact can be maximised via support where possible.

RYA Scotland event tiers
RYA Scotland’s events strategy highlights outlines our approach to event support, categorised in a four Tier system as visible below.
Tier 1
RYA Scotland acts as the Organising Authority (OA)
Tier 2
Event support through the provision or equipment, knowledge, or personnel for events organised by RYA affiliate organisations.
Tier 3
Visible input in the form of prizes, endorsements, and grant support.
Tier 4
Interested to see the event happen, enhancement of existing events and grow opportunities for participation or wider awareness of the sport.
Are you looking for event support?
To allow us to identify the event support needs in the community, we invite requests from event organisers. To make sure we allocate the limited resources appropriately we will consider each request individually to determine how we can help (where possible).
The different type of support we can provide include:
Promoting your event through our social media channels and events calendar
Supporting first time opportunities, an open day, or other way of welcoming new faces onto the water
Equipment support (e.g. bibs, VHFs, race marks, RIBs) for a major event, regatta or festival.
Important Notes
Support will typically not be monetary and is instead primarily resource and time based.
We will generally require 6 months notice to fulfil any RIB loan requests so that they can be programmed in.
When loaning equipment we may request a returnable deposit to cover any loss of damage
When loaning RIBs we will ask you sign a RIB loan agreement which sets out terms relating to insurance, certification of the RIB drivers and capability for towing the RIBs. Many of these requirements are a result of complying with the updated MCA Sport and Pleasure Code.
